Hot Shrines

Kamigamo Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It enshrines Kamowakeikazuchi-no-mikoto and is famous for the Aoi Festival. The shrine features important cultural properties and beautiful gardens.

Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine was founded in 1445 when the local lord built a residence and enshrined Hachiman deity. The current main building was completed in 1915 and features the "Seitei Hachimanza" style.

Ushijima Shrine, built in 860, is a historic shrine dedicated to three deities. It features a rare three-wheeled torii gate and cow statues, popular for health and matchmaking prayers. Night illumination is also beautiful.

Saiin Kasuga Shrine is located in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. It was founded in 833 (Tencho 10) when Emperor Junnin of Japan enshrined deities from Kasuga Taisha in Nara by imperial command. During the Heian period, it was revered by the Imperial family and has been worshipped as a guardian for health and disaster prevention. Today, it continues to serve imperial prayers and is believed to have benefits for healing illnesses and warding off evil.

Watarai Kunimi Shrine is a subsidiary shrine of the Outer Shrine, and its enshrined deity is Hikokunimigaki Takeyotsuka no Mikoto, who is considered the ancestor of the Ise Kuni no Miyatsuko (provincial governor) and Watarai Kannushi (chief priest). It is located within the grounds of the Outer Shrine, situated along a solemn path through a natural forest beside the North Gate.
